What Are Essentials Of Copywriting For The Web?

Writing copy that is fool proof, appealing, crisp, smart and that which keeps the reader on a page for long is an extremely sought after skill by most website designers.

So, what are essentials of copywriting? Are there tricks and tips that can help you write better web copy? Of course there are.

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when writing copy for the web. The people who are going to read the content, their geographical location and other demographics are all important factors that decide how your copy needs to be written. You may have written a wonderful piece of article on a certain subject but that will not be enough. There are certain things that need to be done before this copy is ready for the web.

Copywriting for Search Engine Optimization is an art. The content needs to be constantly appealing to both search engines as well as the human readers. Feeding the right keywords is the key to appeal to the search engines. In this post we shall discuss the top 3 essential elements of copywriting.

  1. Keyword Optimization: The relevancy of a particular page on the Internet is determined by the keywords or words similar to them present in the page. Search engines look for such keywords or similar words to analyze whether or not a page is relevant to the topic that is being searched by the user. Although it is very important that you have keywords, it is also important that you do not spam. If you want to get the maximum effect, stick to a keyword density of 2-4%.
  2. Writing in the inverted pyramid style: The search engines prefer the journalistic approach to page content. They prefer the inverted pyramid style, where the most important information is presented at the top and the rest of the information follows gradually. Since the most important information is provided at the top, readers know exactly what the article is about. The most important keywords also co-relate with the information and get displayed at the start. This increases the chances of the search engines ranking the page higher.
  3. Retaining visitor’s attention: No web page can be called successful unless it is able to hold the reader’s attention. The more time a visitor spends on a page, the better are his chances of buying the product or services offered. The trick to holding a visitor’s attention is to write small and simple sentences. This increases readability. Organize the page with short sentences and paragraphs and format it with a good and readable font. Also use bullets to highlight important points to the reader.
